The product you are referring to is an OEM product sold directly to top tier laptop manufacturers only. "You have reached the SanDisk retail support department. I shot an email off to Sandisk ( mfr of the MMC32gb Chip) and they say it was specially made for Dell and they cannot/will not supply the driver to me!įrom Sandisk. The OS ( Win10 or Win7, UEFI or LEGACY) it needs to access the "MMC 32gb" chip as a hard drive. The problem lies with WHATEVER OS I try to install with! Windows total install is 14gb and with necessary utilities goes to 21-22 gb. So how do I acquire/supply/provide that driver during either installation process? A second USB drive? and where do I get that driver from?Īpologize Masterchief, for blurry pic, i cant do a screen shot, and used my cell which also adds some moire! it is 29 gb though. This laptop was given to me because someone, prior to me, had done "something" and it would not boot whatsoever or respond to any keystrokes other than Bios setup(F2) and boot order (F12), and I would get an on screen display of either generic DOS "No boot device" message or a Dell message saying "No boot device"!Īs it stands with the hard drive wiped, and a bootable USB memstick loaded with either Win 7 OR WIN 10, the installation process proceeds normally right up to the point where you choose your OS install hard drive and then an error message is displayed that says "A required drive device driver is missing" that does not appear to be on either version (Win7 or Win10) of the bootable USB memstick. I have even loaded Linux/GPart on to a USB memstick, booted into Linux Gparted and wipe the hard drive clean. I have tried all combination of the BIOS Legacy/UEFI - Secure boot (OFF) settings, along with the USB boot memsticks having multiple different versions of Win7 and Win10.

I've now installed Linux on the 3162 twice with different OS's and 1 once on another Dell with the same set up on it.I have a Dell Inspi(3168, Tag GS5B0C2) that will not allow the re-installation of Win7 or win10 OS. This time I made the bootable disk with USB Image Writer in linux, and it worked, I just had to ensure I the boot menu set to uefi with secure boot on, in any other setting it won't boot once installed. Update I wasn't done playing, and ended up installing Linux on another similary set up Dell, which then resulted in me redoing the 3162. I'm actually typing this right now from this Dell inspiron 11 3162.Hope this helps anyone else having troubles with the install a lot of us seem to be having. i just clicked normal and everything loaded normal. Then after that I selected to erase the drive and install normally, i didn't select the 'something else' option.Įverything installed as normal, and when it rebooted i did have a dos menu that came up first asking me i wanted to boot normal, change secure boot options ect. I was asked to create a password for secure boot. the normal bootloader came up and installed. Then I when I inserted the bootable usb and turned the laptop on selected f12 for the boot options and selected the UEFI bootable drive it also showed the usb name too there. In the laptop boot settings, I set it to UEFI and secure boot on.I made the bootable usb from using rufus in windows and selecting for the boot scheme that it was GPT scheme with UEFI not the default MBR with UEFI optiob.Hi I too had difficulty and racked my brain over this, but was able to install from a bootable usb.
